I'm a new shahada and I am the only source of support for myself and my daughter, so I have to work or starve. The problem is I can not wear the hijab to work. I do not smoke or drink, or any of those things, but I know being uncovered must look really bad to people in my area. When I go to work, I'm uncovered, when I go to Masjid, I'm covered. Some Muslims in the community where I live won't even speak to me. I don't know what to do. What does one do in this situation?

Asalaam wualakum You are one who thinks, i think that is key in being a Muslim, so you will find what is right for you to do. Please sister, find in the beatiful Quran what is written in regards to your worry on how one is to dress. Allha will tell you, no one else otherwise what is the point. Many people who are born into the faith do not do this, so do not take info without research. Now that is part of your religion.

Asalamualakum I really appreciate the kind words of encouragement. You and everyone who has received me so kindly,Allah (stw)grant you and all your loved ones Jena for your kindness! (Please, My spelling may be off, but I am searching for classes to learn correct Arabic. Insha Allah I will speak and write.) At the time of my first post I was deeply sadened and ashamed because of my situation. But I make duwa often asking Allah (swt) to help and guide me in truth. So after reading responses I am encouraged. I am looking for a job in a place I can wear hijab; and I know Insha-Allah, I will have one. In the mean time, I am learnig what the covering really means, so I will remove this picture and replace it. I am sorry if I have offended anyone. May Allah Most Merciful forgive. I don't intend to offend, I'm only now begining to understand. I am now looking forward to Ramadhan, however when is it officially begin? How does one fast and pray acceptably during this time? Are there specific prayers I must say? I read in Quran what Ramadahn is, I just need to know how to observe properly. Salam

Assalamualaikum sister Congratulations on your Shahada! May Allah swt grant you good in this life and the Hereafter.. Do not worry about looking bad to people in your area because we are not here to please people. They do not know our difficulties. The most important are our intentions, and Allah swt knows what is really in our hearts. It is said that Allah swt is so Generous and Merciful that if we have a good intention but did not manage to, or were prevented from carrying out that intention, He would still reward us for that intention. If the muslims in your community won't even speak to you then there is something really wrong with their iman. Where is their compassion? They are only muslims in appearance and you can benefit nothing from their example. I could suggest that you simply smile at them whenever you pass them by, and say "Salamualaykum".(Btw, did you know that a smile is considerd a form of charity in Islam?) Do not bother about not gettiing a response or a returned salam from them. You just continue to do your part and eventually if there is any bit of conscience in them, they would return your smile.......and they should return your salam.....and eventually they should realise how shameful of them to judge you unkindly in the first place and to behave so unislamically. Insyallah, the doors of frienship will open for you and you will be admired for your perseverance and commendable attitudes. Salams / fatima

Assalam Warahamatulla, I just wish I would know the solution but I really do not know. You have to ask yourselves for the possible solution. However I think it better start to look for a different job. May Allah give you enough and bless you. Wassalam Warahamatulla A Muslim Brothere

Dear sister, Congratulations, may Allah guide you and all of us to the right path in life and here after. It takes time and a lot of efforts to improve our self regarding to Islam yet no one is perfect. People could get a little judgmental, so I'd focus more on myself and enrich my knowledge in Islam and understand deeply what does it mean. Then you will find yourself obliged to follow this roles not because of the society but because of your faith and love to Allah(swt). Take your time and Inshaa-Allah, Allah will help you. Salamu Alaikum
