Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.
You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life.....
You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore.
Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness; so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.
It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain.
I hate love.

i agree with you that love does become bitter due to negative characteristics which create negative feelings in a partner.
i also agree with your assessment in regards judging love by what was "not done for one",not only will anger and resentment creep in so will disillusionment, suspicion and possibly mistrust too,not to mention a steep deterioration in the relationship.
desiring is not a bad thing especially when one desire's for a happy relationship and hence the happiness of their spouse and to please Allah SWT.once again you're right when you say desire for the wrong things leads to suffering/problems.
if only everybody thought like you my dear sister fatima22 and gave in order to please others then the world would be a much better place.sadly there are too many takers and not enough givers.let us hope and pray that will change,Insha'Allah.
take care

I think love becomes bitter because of our selfish trait.
If the couples mutually derive pleasure in wishing to make each other happy, the relationship takes a whole different meaning.
If one partner keeps judging love by what his or her spouse did not do for them, then resentment and anger would eventually creep in. On the other hand if the same partner likes doing things that would make his/her spouse happy, then conflicts could be kept far away.
There is a saying: " All your suffering comes from desiring things that cannot be had. Stop desiring and you won't suffer"
So instead of "desiring", we should practise "Giving" and aim for Allah's pleasures.
