It's depressing to open the newspapaers or hear the news over the radio/tv .... bad economy, fighting, killing, robbing, etc, etc ... Heavy clouds loom on most people's lives... Entering the office, I can sense the bad mood of my boss, almost every day!......And all people talk about these days ...are the downturn in the economy, bad business, lower salary, high costs, unemployment, etc ... The only way to bring some spark of joy (and sanity..!) would be, I think, to make the effort to count our blessings.. So the idea came for this blog... Why not reflect on what made us smiile today ..... ? People will argue that this won't solve anything... they may be correct... but at least for a moment ... it would make us forget the miseries we cannot run away from ... and serve like a 'vitamin'... to energize us further... So why not share your joy ? ... Contribute your inputs ... and make us all smile with you ... As a start, here's my 'smile factor' for the day .. Today my mother made chicken soup for me ! :) I was down with a bad flu for a couple of days .. when my mum heard about it she was mad cause I refused to stop fasting and take my medications according to the prescribed timings... (btw, she is not a muslim so she doesn't understand Ramadhan..) After our phone conversation in the morning, I thought nothing more about our discord and went to sleep... In the late afternoon, there was a knock on my door... and there was my mum ... with a doggy bag! She had brewed her special chicken soup and brought it over to my place so that I could consume it when I break my fast... I've never been so happy to see my mother ....and even better ... I had missed her special soup! ... Oh! and I forgot to mention... she even took the trouble to get a new pot and utensils to cook the soup, and the chicken and all the ingredients were from a halal store .... Mothers are the Best !

My Smile for the day..... The Females in my office Won the Bowling Match ! We had an Office Bowling Competiton ... Males vs Females and the Females Won!! Yay! It started with a song "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better"...that spurred a Tease ... that led to the Challenge.. and then the Battle ...and eventually the Result ! Now the guys are proposing a Golf Competition ... But we have not accepted yet .. We are still basking in our Victory :)

My Smile for the day... My aunt asked me to babysit her grandchildren (8 & 10years old) cause their parents were away and she wanted to attend her afternoon mahjong game. She even scheduled to bring us out for dinner later, and if she won her game, she'd even bring us to a fancier restaurant... After they finished their homework, I suggested we cleaned the garden because it had not rained the past days and there were many dried fallen leaves around. Towards the end of the task, I asked the older girl to water the grass and flower pots while I and the yonger boy gathered the leaves into the trash bags. At one point I asked my niece for an additional trash bag... As she did not hear me clearly, she turned towards me to enquire again.... without realising that she was holding the hose in her hand... And soooo ... SPLASH !! Both myself and nephew were sprayed with water from the hose! In retaliation, I splashed back some water from a nearby bucket....! Seeing my reaction, my nephew followed suite and splashed back water from a watering can..! This then led to a "Free For All Water Fight"... with us running all round the garden amidst screams, shrieks and laughters, and dirtying/wetting whatever was along our path! Unaware to us, my aunt returned and was shocked to witness the whole scene...When we heard her scream, all of us stopped ..drenched.. guilt ridden ....and shivering..! I received the worst of her scoldings/grumbling becasue 1) I was the babysitter and should have prevented it rather than initiate and be a participant in it 2)The hanging laundry was soiled with us running through them and using them as shields from the 'attacks' 3) My aunt's favourite shoes by the side of the garden were trampled upon and soaked and had to be thrown away... Outcome: All Culpirts Grounded ! (Me included...) Additional Outcome: You can guess... No Dining Out!.. No Fancy Restaurant !... . Just 'Instant Noodle!" So you may ask what made me Smile today..? Well...it was the spontaneous Water Fight, of course!.... And even when my aunt was continuously grumbling in the background while we had to rewash the laundry and wipe dry all the areas/furniture/glass panels that got affected by the 'fight'... all 3 of us were chuckling softly when reminiscing the incident ! :)

My Smile for the day... Couple of times previously when I bring some cooked food to share with my colleagues, they complained that I don't bring enough for all to try!... well, that's cause I don't have a big pot to cook the dishes... I live alone, so size of utensils that I have are just right for my consumption. But over the weekend I bumped into a sale at a shopping centre and the utensils were going at crazy prizes! So I invested in a huge pot... cooked a large portion ... and Finally! ... No Complaints ... cause their mouths were full! :)

My Smile for the day... There are 3 stray cats always roaming a certain car park. 2 of them are white and daring, while the 3rd is totally black, frail looking and timid. If I happen to see them around, I'd try to remember to buy a pack of cat food on my return to my car and leave it at the sidewalk for them. A couple of times I noticed that the 2 white ones will approach the pack and devour the food while the black one will wait at a corner till they have finished, and often there's nothing left for it. Today, after seeing them, I decided to buy 2 packets of cat food...opened the first pack .. and as usual the 2 white ones approached immediately.. and while they were busy eating, I opened the second pack and left it a little further away for the black cat. Though the white cats tried to come over to the second packet, I stood nearby and discouraged them, so that the black one could have its fill on its own.... Justice has been served! :)
