I am wondering what people think on this subject. Whether we have free will or is our lives bound to a certain destiny. Please feel free to discuss your opinion. I will state my opinion in a future post. Allah be with you.

Is then He Who standeth over every soul (and knoweth) all that it doth (like any others)? And yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "But name them! Is it that ye will inform Him of something He knoweth not on earth or is it (just) a show of words?" Nay! to those who believe not their pretence seems pleasing but they are kept back (thereby) from the Path: and those whom Allah leaves to stray no one can guide."Serve ye what ye will besides Him." Say: "Truly those in loss are those who lose their own souls and their People on the Day of Judgement: Ah! that is indeed the (real and) evident Loss!"

Allah disdains not to use the similitude of things lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means Allah by this similitude?" By it He causes many to stray and many He leads into the right path but He causes not to stray except those who forsake (the path). Mankind was one single nation and Allah sent Messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the People of the Book after the clear Signs came to them did not differ among themselves except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace guided the believers to the truth concerning that wherein they differed. For Allah guides whom He will to a path that is straight. this is from Holy quran

Salamu Alaikum. On the subject of pre-destination I think sister Fatima is about right, but Allah knows best.

Thank you for your responses, I should have made it clearer by saying Free choice vs Destiny. Do you think these 2 concepts are separate from each other or bound to each other?

The answer to having a better life is not about getting a better life; It's just about changing how we see the one we have right now.....

I do not think we have free WILL. WILL is an attribute only possible with Allah swt. He WILLS it and it happens.... As for Destiny....(Qadr ?)...If we say we are bound to destiny then it would create a situation whereby we blame everything to destiny and not work for betterment. Example...i am poor...it is my destiny, so be it... Or, Allah swt has determined where i will end up when He created me...so I am helpless.... and if Hell is my prescribed abode...Hell it will be! ... These i feel are wrong attitudes. However what we do have is FREE CHOICE! Life after all consists of a series of Choices.... Choice to wake up and go to work, or remain asleep and be late for work. Choice to marry, to have children, etc....Choice to remain depressed in a bad situation or resolve to change the outlook and improve our conditions emotionally, mentally, spiritually...Choice to follow the Right Path or peer pressure, etc.. This ismy opinion....so what is yours?
