Tips for Memorizing the Qur?an

Allah says in the Holy Qur?an (interpretation of the meaning): ?Those who recite the Book of Allah, establish regular prayer, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for commerce that will never fail? (Fatir 35:29)

Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-As may Allah bless him reported: The Prophet peace be upon him said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

This Hadith mentions the merit of those who memorize part or all of the Qur'an. Some scholars, in explaining this Hadith, have mentioned that the number of ranks (levels) in Paradise is equal to the number of ayahs in the Qur?an, and that a believer will rise one rank for each ayah that he or she memorizes.

In another Hadith, Othman ibn Affan may Allah bless him reported that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said, "The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it.'' [Al-Bukhari].

In what follows we list a few hints regarding memorizing the Qur?an, some of which were presented to us by the knowledgeable Sh. Osama Abdul-Azeem of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

First, make sure to correct your tawbah (repentance to Allah), as sins do not leave any room for the Words of Allah. The Imam Al-Shafie has a famous verse of poetry in which he complained to his scholar about having difficulty in memorizing. His scholar advised him to abandon sins

Have your intention ready, and bear in mind the reward and virtues of this great deed as mentioned in the Hadiths above. Ask Allah sincerely to assist you in accomplishing this.

Dedicate a specific time each day (or every couple of days) for memorizing. This should be a time when you are not busy with other things.

Use the same copy of the Qur?an each time. This is because your mind takes a ?snapshot? of the pages.

Start with the surahs that are easiest to you. Many people recommend beginning with the last five juz?s (the 30th, then the 29th, and so on).

Other surahs to begin with are those that you enjoy reciting most of all, and those that you frequently listen to and thus probably already know part of by heart.

The younger you are, the easier it will be. As you grow older, you get busier and your capacity for memorizing decreases. However, it?s never too late in shaa Allah. If you haven?t memorized a lot during your childhood or teens, you can still catch up.

After completing a couple of ayahs, recite them in the next nafl (voluntary prayer) that you pray. Alternatively, practice them with a friend or your spouse.
Finally, it might be a good idea to work in groups, encouraging one another. If you are trying to get your children to memorize, you might want to create a sense of competition among them and then provide some reward to whoever memorizes best. May Allah guide us to all that pleases Him, Ameen.

when I die
when my coffin
is being taken out
you must never think
i am missing this world

don't shed any tears
don't lament or
feel sorry
I'm not falling
into a monster's abyss

when you see
my corpse is being carried
don't cry for my leaving
i'm not leaving
i'm arriving at eternal love

when you leave me
in the grave
don't say goodbye
remember a grave is
only a curtain
for the paradise behind

you'll only see me
descending into a grave
now watch me rise
how can there be an end
when the sun sets or
the moon goes down

it looks like the end
it seems like a sunset
but in reality it is a dawn
when the grave locks you up
that is when your soul is freed

have you ever seen
a seed fallen to earth
not rise with a new life
why should you doubt the rise
of a seed named human

have you ever seen
a bucket lowered into a well
coming back empty
why lament for a soul
when it can come back
like Joseph from the well

when for the last time
you close your mouth
your words and soul
will belong to the world of
no place no time

They say, "Oh, poor girl, ur so beautiful u know
It's a shame dat u cover up ur beauty so."
She just smiles and graciously responds reassuringly,
"This beauty that I have is just 1 simple part of me.
This body that I have, no stranger has the right to c.
These long clothes, this shawl I wear, ensure my modesty.
Faith is more essential than fashion, wouldn't you agree?"
This scarf,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil 4rm ur heart to see da heart of purity.

They tell her, "Girl, don't u know this is the West and you r 3?
U don't need 2 b oppressed, ashamed of ur femininity."
She just shakes her head & she speaks so assuredly,
"See da bill-boards and da magazines dat line the check-out isles,
with their phony painted faces & their air-brushed smiles?
Well their sheer clothes & low cut gowns they are really not 4 me.
U call it freedom, I call it anarchy."
This scarf,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to c.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil 4rm ur heart to c the heart of purity.
Lift da veil 4rm ur heart & seek the heart of purity.

I wished for my eyes to see your features
In this world, and to be happy when you are happy
In paradise to see you with your family, with the companions and pious believers
And for you to see me as though you know me
And for you to look at me and call my name
And I run to you and feel that from this moment in time
I'm from one of the believers
In Islam you have marked your place forever
You are a mercy sent to the worlds
I wish I lived in your times
If my life is not for you, then who is it for?
I wished for my eyes to see your features
In this world, and to be happy when you are happy
In Paradise to see you with your family, with the companions and pious believers
O Allah I pray for you to keep
My path in Islam the same path as his
With the companions and with him I pray
And write for me to be his friend
There are many words for you in my heart
I couldn't say it until you were by my side
Stay with me and intercede for my sins
You are the Imam and the trustworthy
In Islam you have marked your place forever
You are a mercy sent to the worlds

FAJR

> A man woke up early in order to pray the Fajr prayer in the
>masjid. He got dressed, made his aboloution and was on his way to the
>masjid.
>
> On his way to the masjid, the man fell and his clothes got dirty. He
>got up, brushed himself off, and headed home. At home, he changed his
>clothes, made his aboloution, and was again, on his way to the masjid.
>
> 2nd time, On his way to the masjid, he fell again and at the same
>spot! He, again, got up, brushed himself off and headed home. At home he,
>once again, changed his clothes, made his aboloution and was on his way to
>the masjid.
>
> On his way 3rd time to the masjid, he met a man holding a lamp. He
>asked the man of his identity and the man replied "I saw you fall twice on
>your way to the masjid, so I brought a lamp so I can light your way." The
>first man thanked him profusively and the two where on their way to the
>masjid.
>
> Once at the masjid, the first man asked the man with the lamp to
>come in and pray Fajr with him. The second man refused. The first man asked
>him a couple more times and, again, the answer was the same. The first man
>asked him why he did not wish to come in and pray.
>
> The man replied "I am Satan."
>
> The man was shocked at this reply. Satan went on to explain, "I saw
>you on your way to the masjid and it was I who made you fall. When you went
>home, cleaned yourself and went back on your way to the masjid, Allah
>forgave all of your sins. I made you fall a second time, and even that did
>not encourage you to stay home, but rather, you went back on your way to
>the masjid. Because of that, Allah forgave all the sins of the people of
>your household. I was afraid if i made you fall one more time, then Allah
>will forgive the sins of the people of your village, so i made sure that
>you reached the masjid safely."
>
> So do not let Satan benefit from his actions.
>
> Do not put ! off a good that you intended to do as you never know
>how much reward you might recieve from the hardships you encounter while
>trying to achieve that good.
>
>
> Allahu La illaha ila Huwa Al Hay Al Qayoom
>
>
> AlHaleem, AlKareem, La ilaha ila Allahu Al3aliy Al3adheem, La ilaha

>
>
> La ilaha! ila Allah, Rab elSamawat elSab3
>
>
> wa Rab al 3arch al3adheem
>

O Lord
O Lord,
If tomorrow on Judgment Day
You send me to Hell,
I will tell such a secret
That Hell will race from me
Until it is a thousand years away.

O Lord,
Whatever share of this world
You could give to me,
Give it to Your enemies;
Whatever share of the next world
You want to give to me,
Give it to Your friends.
You are enough for me.

O Lord,
If I worship You
From fear of Hell, burn me in Hell.

O Lord,
If I worship You
From hope of Paradise, bar me from its gates.

But if I worship You for Yourself alone
Then grace me forever the splendor of Your Face.
