ABUNDANT LIFE; Living fully and being consciously aware of becoming whole with your mind, body, soul, and ecology.
APPROPRIATENESS; The child of love and humbleness.
BARAKA; Grace, divine charm, the ability of putting into actione divine attributes of supraconscious mind.
CHIVALRY (futuwwa): Heroic sacrifice and generosity. The Sufi ethic that traces back to the family of the Prophet(PBUH)
CONTENTMENT; The awareness of one's present riches, without precluding having more.
DERVISH; A seeker on the path: one who stands at the threshold between slavery and freedom.
ECOLOGY; Relationship with our enviroment.
FANA; The state of having melted into the Divine Being, which is followed by or alternates with baqa; the state of resurrecting through the Divine Being.
HEART (qalb): The subconscious/supraconscious faculty of mind; all the faculties of mind that are nonintellectual. The core of our individuality. The midpoint between self and spirit which allows a connection to be formed between them.
INTENTION(himmah): An aim or wish, clearly formulated in words, by which we mobilize the energy to attain that aim or wish. Having a spiritual intention is the beginning of integrity.
LIFE (hayy): An attribute of God. It is from eternity to eternity and forms our existence.
MYSTICISM (tassawuf): A faculty peculiar to the human being, which is obvious to neither the intellect nor the senses. Depends on the refinement and receptivity of faculties within the supraconsciuous mind.
POINT Of CONTACT: A person through whom we gain access to Higher Self.
REMEMBERING, REMEMBRANCE: (zikr): When the stste of presence comes into relationship with the Divine Being, whether in its Majesty or its Intimacy.
Sacred Law (Shari'at)A code of living based upon the Qur'an and the example (sunnah) of Muhammad whose intention is to restore and safeguard our humanness and the social order.
SUFI: A word first used to describe one who understands Essence beyond forms. A word whose root means pure and unadulterated.
SUFISM: (tasawwuf) The education of our humanness; the cultivation of divine character.
TARIQA: The spiritual path. A Sufi order, an esoteric school with a spiritual lineage.
TRUTH: For the human being: the knowledge that I am not seperate from the whole.
YEARNING: One of the most valuable attributes of a seeker, which becomes the motivating force of the whole journey of their calling to return to God.

Iman vs. shaytan

There was this elderly lady who was well known for her Iman and her confidence in talking about it. She would stand in front of her house and say,"Alhumdulilah" (praise be to God) to all those who passed by. Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so mad at her proclamations he would shout,"THERE IS NO GOD."
Hard times came upon the elderly lady and she prayed for Allah to send her some assistance. She would pray out loud in her night prayer,"Oh Allah I need food, I am having a hard time please send me groceries." The atheist happened to hear what she was saying and decided to play a prank on her. The next morning the lady went out on the porch and found a bag full of groceries. She shouted,"Alhumdulilah" The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and shouted,"Aha, I told you there was no God, I bought those groceries God didn't." The lady started clapping, and jumping up and down. She shouted,"ALHAMDULILAH WA SHUKRILLAH" He not only sent me groceries, but he made the devil pay for them.

Surrounded by Muslims

Two business men seated on a airplane noticed a Muslim man sitting in front of them. One of the men says to the other with a wink, " I was going to go to Africa until I found out half of the country is muslim, so I don't want to go there."
The other man says, "Well how about Saudi Arabia then?"
The first man says, "No way, that that place is loaded with those muslims too."
The other man suggests a trip to the United States but his companion says,"The muslims have spread out over the whole country every time I turn around there I bump into one."
The men are watching the muslim and can see that the man is fidgeting and getting agitated about their conversation. The man who started the teasing decides to really get him mad and says, "I really wanted to go to Pakistan but that place is really crawling with Muslims."
At this the Muslim man has had it and finally turns around in his seat and sweetly says to the men, "Why don't you both go to hell? There's hardly any muslim there."

How do you approach and help a westernized Muslim.

I consider myself to still be new to Islam although I have studied for awile. I am not perfect and I find myself being tested practically on a daily basis. I know someone who was raised in a muslim country and then moved to the United States. After being here for a few years they engage in premarital, smoke, lie, drink alcohol, and they no longer pray or read the Qu'ran. I am only searching for guidance; since I am new I feel as if it will be the blind leading the blind, but I have this heavy-hearted feeling that I would be wrong to turn my cheek and walk away. The area where we live is only a handful of Muslim. Is there something specific that I can write or say to them? What do I do and say in a manner that will not offend them? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
