In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. PLEASE SEE CONTINUATION BELOW ON 28 MARCH 2007. MUSLIMS MEN MARRY JEWS AND CHRISTIANS. As we know some countries allow the muslims men to marry the women of Jews and Christians or the People of the Book, especially the western part of the world. Where as some countries DO NOT allowed the muslims men to marry the Jews and Christians, whether some of these countries, the muslims are the minorities or the majorities. I forwarded a question to Islamic Centre, regarding about muslims men marry Jews and Christians or the People of the Book, in some countries. The Islamic Centre or the Muslim scholar gave reply or feedback through my email and something that I would like to share. Below are the reply or feedback from THE MUSLIM SCHOLAR the reasons for some countries which DO NOT allowed such marriages: Dear Sister, It is true that it's mentioned in the Holy Qur'an that Muslim men are allowed to marry women of the Christian and Jewish faith (People of the Book). It was implemented and done by some of the companions back in their days. Things were DIFFERENT back then, as everyone agreed that if marriages of that nature were to happen, that they would live in an environment that was influenced by Islam and follow its principles. Thus, there were no problems with matters pertaining to death, inheritance and the raising of the couples children for example. But nowadays, the context has CLEARLY CHANGED. The Muslim (husband) would have problem in trying to raise his child in an Islamic environment when the wife (Christian/Jew) does not practise the same religion. In fact, the wife might even be able to influence the child to her faith and beliefs. TO BE CONTINUED..........INSYA'ALLAH. ALLAH KNOWS BEST. ********************************** In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. CONTINUATION FROM PREVIOUS POST. (28 MARCH 2007) Continuation - Reply from Muslim scholar: One of the main points here is that we do not want to confuse the child, we do not want to have any problems when implementing and applying Islamic values and rules in the marriage. Islam has its own set of rules when it comes to marriage, divorce, child custody and etc. It is then best that all is avoided as we do not wish to see or have conflicts and misunderstandings that will seriously affect the harmony of the family. And just to add on for your personal info, we've had a number of real couples lately asking us whether they are allowed to have inter-faith marriages. So, it is good that you are asking as now there are more people wanting to have such marriages. We see the importance in educating the public community on this particular issue. And we will work on it soon in the near future. Above are the comments and reply through my personal email, from Islamic Centre and Muslim Scholar regarding about the issue and why in some countries such marriages are NOT ALLOWED. Just for sharing. ALLAH KNOWS BEST.
