Quoting fatima22:
Thanks for your comments.
This is the same fear of his parents... that he would be a prime candidate that Al-Qaida would consider to recruit due to his present inclinations...
Personally I am of the same opinion that we muslims were, and should still be, one of the greatest civilization, specially in advanced knowledge.... because our Creator has provided much hidden knowledge for us to pursue, appreciate and develop, for the benefit of mankind. However the tendency to settle for a resigned life gives others the opportunty to harness and elaborate these knowledge and then they are credited for the discoveries. Subsequently, the muslims would say these are "secular" developments and we should not support them. Such muslims fail to think that if the ideal muslim life is to concentrate on spending their days just reading the Quran, leaving rezki to whatever comes their way and just indulge solely in pursuing religious studies, then they should not snubb the emerging non muslim scientists, doctors, physicians, manufacturers, developers, professors, etc.. They refused to put in the effort for advancement.. then they malign "advancement" as the work of Syaitan...
There is a saying by our Prophet(pbuh)to "Tie our camel, and trust in Allah (swt).." If we reflect on this, it clearly indicates that making the necessary effort should be a combined process with tusting in Allah (swt), and not otherwise..
In addition, if the capable muslims feel that to be financially advanced is materialistic ... then who can the less fortunate muslims rely on for financial assistance? If the muslims think being rich is materialistic, why then don't they think of using their talents to create business to provide jobs for other muslims, or give out their financial gains to the poorer familie/children ..build education facilities or endowment funds, free medical facilities ...??
Sadly though, at this stage... the boy refuses to listen or reflect any such advice and continue to alienate himself and lead a solitary lifestyle, spending his days in the mosque with no educational or career ambition ....
