seeking knowledge is great. This is the first step. I just became a volunteer in an NGO that works on conveying the Islamic message yesterday. We send books about Islam all over the world free of charge. We have them in several languages. You can contact me and I can send you whatever you wish for.

Hello Seeking Light,

Answers to your Questions are . . .
. . .

Q: What are the guiding principles of this Faith?

A: the Guiding principles of ISLAM:

there are five pillars in Islam:

(1.) Believe in Oneness of God.

Testimony:

"None has the right to be worship except Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger."

(2.) Prayer (five times a day within the specific time frame)

(3.) Zakat (Alms); (not charity, because people can make choice about charity)

(4.) Siam (fasting during the month of Ramadhan)

(5.) Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Q: Why do Muslim women cover their hair?

A: its the commandment (order) of Allah to cover women's body up to certain place, not only hair.

...........................................................................................................................................

Q: What sort of duties are expected from a person of faith in this community? Prayers?

A: you pray to please Allah, not any community or anyone else.

("And I have not created Jinns and
men, except that they should
worship (serve) Me." (51:56) ]

............................................

Q: What is Deen?

A: Deen is Religion, in this case Islam. Islam is the complete way of life.

Q: What is Imaan?

A: Imaan is an Islamic term, literally meaning belief or faith. Believing in the unseen is Imaan.

1. Believe in One God, believe in this kalima,

"Laa Ilaaha Illallahu Muhammamadur Rasulullah."

("None has the right to be worship except Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger").

2. Believe in all of God's messengers.

3. Believe in all the books sent down to prophets of God. These books include Torah and Gospel (Ingeel),

However, only the Holy Quran exists in its original form.

4. Believe in the existence of Angels.

5. Believe in the Day of Judgment, Life after Death, Heaven and Hell.

.

Most importantly ask ALLAH for guidance and knowledge and He will answer InshAllah.

SeekingLight, remember

QURAN is the source of LIGHT.

May Allah show you the Light and

may Allah show all of us Light so we can be successful in both life.

Suppose you can recite a thousand holy
verses from memory.
What are you going to do
with your ego self, the true
mark of the heretic?
Every time your head touches
the ground in prayers, remember,
this was to teach you to
put down that load of ego
which bars you from entering
the chamber of the Beloved.

To your mind feed understanding,
to your heart, tolerance and compassion.
The simpler your life, the more meaningful.
The less you desire of the world,
the more room you will have in it
to fill with the Beloved.

The best use of your tongue
is to repeat the Beloved's Name in devotion.
The best prayers are those in
the solitude of the night.
The shortest way to the Friend
is through selfless service and
generosity to His creatures.

Those with no sense of honor and dignity are best avoided.
Those who change colors constantly
are best forgotten.
The best way to be with those
bereft of the Beloved's qualities,
is to forget them in the
joy of silence in one's corner of solitude.

Dear Rebecca,
It is not easy to answer all of your questions on this forum, there are many resources that you can get the answers from, I recommend that you learn the basics by yourself and then you can ask someone for help, you might find some good information on al-islam,KOM

Good luck!

To everyone on this forum:

My name is Rebecca and I am college student. I have recently become very curious about the Muslim faith and wish to learn more. I am not trying to offend anyone, so please understand that anything offensive I might say is purely by accident. I just didn't know how else to get my questions answered.

What are the guiding principles of this faith?
Why do Muslim women cover their hair?
What sort of duties are expected from a person of faith in this comunity? Prayers?
What is deen?
What is imaan?

I just want to learn so that I might be a better friend and neighbor in my community.
