I recently noticed in my university in VA there is an influx of hijab wearing muslim women. Is the population of hijab wearing women increased in the universities in your area. I think it is mostly due to muslim women supporting other muslims around the world who are having hijab bans and verbal harassment. I could be wrong and it could be due to more people focusing on their deen. Please I want to hear from ladies only because men do not wear hijab.

Assalamualaikum,

At university one day, a woman angrily approached her, asking why Nur was dressed like that, bringing herself so much attention, and bringing "backwardness" to Canada, when feminists had worked so hard for the cause of women for the last twenty years.

Gosh, the next time anyone gets an encounter like this, perhaps it is good to highlight to the ignorant persons that THEY are the ones who are actually bringing "backwardness" into the country...

Remind them that the cavewomen wore none, and later, the skimpiest of coverings. So did the aborigines ...

Only after being EDUCATED did our forefathers realise the necessity of covering themselves.

Compare the amount of coverings adopted by the earliest generations and the fashion of today. Do they not see the vast similarities, with all the mini fashions, and greater exposure of the women's flesh?? They are in fact following a BACKWARD trend!

Islam is the newest of religion and the women are taught to wear hijab, so therefore this should be the most modern of fashion, in this context!

In The Name of Allah the most Merciful:
brother Bosnian83:
I understand yr vision & I respect U & yr religous that's not because I'm a good woman ...no but because my islam orders me 2 do so but I wonder do U respect our islam as I do 2 yr religous ?I'm ready 2 try 2 explain 2 U why we HAVE 2 put hijaab ...first please open yr mind ,heart& be a frank man ...
the place of the woman in islam is very very high in the sky it's just like the great thing that U want 2 protect it from any thing ...
by wearing hijaab we build a strong community not like the western one ....I heard that in just America ther're at LEAST 2 MILLIONs of children no one knows any thing about thier fathers..
IS THAT THE FREEDOM U WANT US 2 HAVE ? hijaab is not covering the hair it's much more deeper ,if the hole women were putting hijaab ,then we wont hear about divorces ,hitting the wife or commeting crimes
besides the strong of our families is that there's a great deal of confidence between the husband & his wife ..
coz the wife is protecting her self ,by being 4 only just her husband
I really wish 2 give U the hole answers that r in my mind now...but 4 sorrow I dont have much time but I promise U that I'll reply as soon as I finish my final exams
Hope U understood me
may peace be upon U all

i think alot of women.. or people in general even, are reverting to islam.. me being one.. people are seeing how islam is the true religion and want to do good, and as allah says to cover up.. i do not wear hijab yet because my family does not yet know my decision but when i move to new university or out of my house i am really considering to wear one... it is wrong not too.. and as a muslim you should want to be good and not do haram, to cover up.. and not be looked at, but respected.

coronita.

I dont know what the percentage is of women that actually do enjoy wearing hijab... However I do believe that there is a lot of men out there who with their closed minded attitudes and behavior force Muslim girls to wear hijab even if they would prefer not wearing it.

I have attended 4 Islamic seminars throughout my entire life, and on all 4 when the topic was hijab it was the male speaker who was expalining and justifying it. I often wondered why is it that male gets to speak about such a feminine issue!?!

As salaamu alaikum everyone.
We must learn our deen first if we want Allah Ta'ala to love and help us. We must love an nabi SAWS and follow him in all that he said if we truly love Allah. Now if we say we love Allah then hornouring His messenger SAWS would be no problem. Allah says:The Noble Qur'an - Al-Ahzab 33:59

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils)* all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Muhammad SAWS: Hadith - Abu Dawud, Narrated Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi
The Apostle of Allah was brought some pieces of fine Egyptian linen and he gave me one and said: Divide it into two; cut one of the pieces into a shirt and give the other to your wife for veil. Then when he turned away, he said: And order your wife to wear a garment below it and not show her figure.
'Aisha said:Hadith - Bukhari 6:282
'Aisha used to say: "When (the Verse): 'They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms,' was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces." It is clear that Allah is the One that is ordering women to cover. We men are the protectors and maintainers to our women.

"Burning question" and not easy to answer, it is much more complicated than few lines, to understand it you need to put it in its context, and you need to see the surroundings so you can see the whole picture or you might get confused :):)

Please look under Religion Forum, you will find some interesting information.

Salam aleikum!!!!

My dear dear sisters... Writing this reply to you... i feel so much dignity.. the hairs on my body stand up feeling proud and sensing piety that run in ur veins. i salute my sisters in the Carribean, US and UK.

My own sister wears a Hijab. Shes married alhamdulillah to a good man. They used to live in Oman, which as u all know is a muslim country. In Oman u could be made fun for wearing the hijab!!! When my sister was at the paediatrician with my wonderful nephews Nabil, Suhail and Adil, a non-muslim woman came upto her and in a mocking, pretty harassing tone asked her the reason for wearing a Hijab!!! If a muslim woman can be made fun of in a muslim country for wearing Hijab, i dont know where she can wear it with pride... i can only dream of the stares and comments you women receive for ur faith. God is all seeing and may he reward u for the pain u take for ur religion, Ameen!!

I'm so proud that even though the faith of eastern muslim women are fading, the westerners take so much caution and pride in following their religion. As the dumb ones of the east look forward to the west for guidance.. i urge the women of the west to stand up and provide powerful role models which my sisters in the east can follow and thus become closer to god and assist their families & themselves in showing the path to enter paradise...

Ma'salamah to all my sisters and brothers and keep up the good work!!!

Muslim women in Hijab are regularly told by Canadians "This is Canada. You're free here. You don't have to wear that thing on you head."!!!!

At university one day, a woman angrily approached her, asking why Nur was dressed like that, bringing herself so much attention, and bringing "backwardness" to Canada, when feminists had worked so hard for the cause of women for the last twenty years.

Several women, especially converts who started covering in their twenties, felt men, even non-Muslim men, approached them more respectfully, did not try to flirt with them or make "leering" comments, and treated them as 'persons' not 'sex-objects.'

An aspect of Hijab that came through strongly in the interviews was how wearing Hijab gives these women sources of inner strength and a high level of confidence and self-esteem

Many women stressed how comfortable they felt wearing Hijab, how it made them feel good about themselves, and brought them a feeling of inner "peace".

Muslim women in the West who cover suffer daily indignities from the people around them because of the way they dress.

Muslim women want non-Muslims to think that Hijab is a respectable thing, not degrading or "oppressive."

I'll say... be proud of your hijab

To all the Sisters out there I think that wearing hijab is integral part of being a muslimah. There has been an increase in the wearing of Hijabs in the western world due to many factors, i imagine. I will probably continue as more women realise its importance.

Here in Scotland there has been an increase in women wearing hijab and covering even more. Obviously due many factors. I think its because of increase in the awareness of Islam due to media, and because of how discontent we are in this society. Strange how our parents have moved away from Islam and we're coming back to it.

assalamualikum knowyourself:
im a muslim sister in college in the caribbean. where i live i would say that the hijab wearing in increasing. i was born in islam so i have been wearing it all my life since it has become compulsory on me. here where i live, ppl do not really bother us because of it, they mostly are inquisitive about why we wear it, bearing in mind that some of them do not even know that islam is in the caribbean.

for me it is. i wear the hijaab because of my deen and because Allah has ordained me to, not for anyone else. muslim women that do not wear the hijab should have faith and know that it is for the sake of Hime alone.
