As a 'desi' (or homelander from the sub-continent) I feel it is my moral obligation to tell my brothers something they should know. It saddens me that many sisters have removed themselves from this board because brothers have not the sense and modesty to refrain from emailing them when they say they don't want any male contacts. I too have been pestered in this way, and 99% of the time, to my chagrin, the fellows are Desi. Any attempt to politely decline their invitation to dialogue is answered with scorn or greater persistence. This is totally unacceptable and reflects horribly on Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and other desi countries. Here is my advise.
Brothers, be careful who you email. The majority of sisters who come onto sites like this are generally practicing Muslimahs who have no wish to engage in Internet friendships with non-Mahram men. If you are wishing to find a spouse on the Net, then kindly seek a matrimonial site. If a sister declines your friendship, THEN LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Persistence in this regard is disgusting and pathetic. Those who continue to harrass and email a sister after being turned down will deserve any rude and curt response.

This is just an effort to answer the question of Miss. Nida .."what is islam anyway?" ISLAM (I Surrender before the Law of Allah and Mohammad(s))..although the law is not made by Mohammad(s)..but he(s) had shown a complete way of life , as per the wish of Allah. So islam is not just a relgion but a complete way of life. From, when you getup in the morining, to when you eat, go to work, deal with people/family, go to toilet, when you do business, when you take care of your family/children/elders/wife/others.....to when you sleep...Islam is an authority to tell you what to do and how to do. And belive me in my this long/short life, i find myself happy only when i obey these rules, and do things as Allah Asked me to do. And i alwasy succeded in life if i follow these ways....Remember always..whats the meaning of Kalma-shhadat..i.e "La-yelha ha illah, muhammadur rasool-llulah"...their is no God but Allah..i.e the only individual who has power to do all things is no-one but Allah...and the only way of success is the way of Muhammad(s)."...hope this helps..if you have some query contact me at rafi@me.iitb.ac.in

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
In the Holy Quran we read:
"They ask thee about the new moons. Say, These are means for measuring time for people's affairs and for the Pilgrimage" (Holy Quran, Ch. 2 V. 190)
Islam has made use of both the lunar and solar system of measuring times. Where worship is to be performed in different parts of the day the solar system of reckoning time is used as in the five daily Prayers or for the beginning and breaking of the fast, and where worship is to be completed within a particular month or part thereof, the lunar system is used, as in the determination of the month or part thereof, the lunar system is used, as in the determination of the month of fasting or fixing the time of Hajj or other festivals.
To calculate conversions from one calendar year to the other the following formula is used:
G = H - ( (3 * H) / 100 ) + 622
H = G + ( ( G - 622) / 32 ) - 622
Where G = Gregorian year (AD)
H = Hijra year (AH)
Thus 2000 AD is 1421 AH
Islamic calendar consists of twelve lunar months. Each month may be of 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the new moon.
An lunar year has, on average, 355 days. This is 10 days less than the solar year. Hence an Islamic year is moved ahead 10 days each year in solar calendar year.
Following are the names of the Islamic months:
1. Muharram ul Haram
2. Safar
3. Rabi-ul-Awwal
4. Rab-ul-Akhir
5. Jamadi-ul-Awwal
6. Jamadi-ul-Akhir
7. Rajab
8. Sha'aban
9. Ramadhan
10. Shawwal
11. Dhul Qadah
12. Dhul Hijja
The Holy Quran states:
"The number of months with Allah has been twelve months by Allah's ordinance since the day He created the heavens and the earth. Of these four are known as sacred" (Holy Quran, ch., v 36)Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Qadah and Dhul Hijja are considered to be sacred months. Fighting during these sacred months is considered to be a sin.
