Harry Potterer? Its is only FICTION, so why should it be a sin?? I also happen to like the literary works of The Lord of the Rings...

FICTION...an imaginary story, literary works with imaginary characters or events..... what's the danger??? The danger is ther reader without a sound mind, not the book!

I like the books of Harry Potter. I think the author has great imagination. And if someone says that she has used the marketing machine very effectively then it is just her marketing skills..

The consumers are us..she has not put a blade on our throats that we MUST read her books, nor has she claimed she was professing a Philosophy or a religion..

I find them more enlightening than the news we get from CNN, etc!

Going into a pub or club not drinking is still forbidden why because it promoting the cause...

As for reading literature,Whats your intentions in doing so yes then it would be then based upon what is the reasons you have chosen to to read such literature.Knowledge is something in which we all get judged upon the more we know indeed the more we get judged upon.As one person has said already islam is time, time in which needs to be well spent as our after life is being determined as we speak so if you think reading such things is going to help you with the main cause in islam, your wrong.
Now in saying all of this yes i didnt say if it was right or wrong did i?
But i emphazized priorities....
Asalam aliakum

Harry Potter has got to be the most boring thing i have ever read.

I have no idea what the fuss is about. I don't usually fiction books. i am more of a non-fictional person. but i think if someone was good then it was J.R.R.Tolkein.

J.K.Rowling has done nothing but cipy other peoples idea and develop them as her own and on top of that she has used the marketing machine very effectively.

I think that if you read harry potter it is not going to affect you because you are just reading it and watching the movie for fun. but unless you get attached to it then you are in trouble.

Selamu alaikum

Bismilah

I thought only some non-Muslim teenagers read such books!
Strange! Read the Quran they are useless.

And that is all about magic and we know that magicians in a country where there is Sheriah should be killed.

So it's waste of time and you may also make sin by reading such things if you start to believe those things.

well.. think they were saying it cause it become so pupolar.. anyway in DK, they read Harry Potter books for children in the chirch.. to make them go there.
I don't think it's Haram in Islam, cause is only imagination, in a harmless way. I have seen the first movie only, don't like Harry that much..

Assalaamu Alaikum Princess, hey i love harry potter! who doesn't! My girlfriend and myself love every one, Harry Rocks!!! but seriously i don't see any problem with the movie, its fiction people!!! I think once it doesn't take away the rememberance of Allah or delay us or cause us to miss salaah by viewing it, it ok i guess. The movie material is fiction, some say the spells are real but i don't believe that...Besides haven't heard any religious body complain, have u???

I have never seen harry potter ... i didnt even know it was frowned upon...
you should look at the message which it is portraying and if it is a good message perhaps its ok... i dont think it would be a sin... but i probably think its better to avoid such movies which might lead you toward belief in such things and supporting magic...

okay, Its just, books and movies . Its not good nor evil .
Its make believe , gives you a chance to expand your imagination christian or muslim no matter what or who you are the only thing thats inportant is being a good person and being true to your heart. Obviesly the people against this fears not only evil but good and dosent have enough confidence in good . My opinion on Harry Potter: I think there fantastic ***Mind you , i know the difference and i most definatly know that im a good person and a fowoler of alah!*** i fear him not harry potter lol!

Hi Alia,

you are right. Even I have not read this book..but strongly believe, such comments can come from very narrow minded people....
