Hi, for the past 1 year now I have been trying to learn about Islam. I have been trying to learn as much as I can. Due to the fact that my whole family is catholic its not easy to ask anyone if you have a question. I thought perhaps this site would introduce me to people who could help with my questions. I am not the type of person who believes what is said on television or by others like many people do today. I don't know why or how I decided to learn about Islam I can only trust Allah has some doing that this is the way my life was suppose to go. I just want to say something. People who were born into Muslim families you should Thank Allah so much. You were raised with the beliefs, raised with the traditions and the prayers. So far my hardest task has been trying to understand the prayers because I can't pray in english. I don't want this to sound like i am complaining I just want to perhaps remind some people of what good things Allah has given them. I am aware of the fact that most muslims study other religions. But most often it is to prove that Islam is the right way. For myself when i study other religions i have to study to prove that my religion is not the best way to Allah. To question something u have practiced all your life is hard. People like myself who want to find God(ALLAH)have to do so in secret because Allah is above all esle yes, but to break your parents heart is not an easy task for anyone. Also when I decided to learn about Islam I knew that in doing so i would have to question everything that in my life that i thought was true. I trust in Allah that this is what is suppose to be for me and I have faith that as hard as this is he will guide me through it. I just wanted to let you know before Eid tomorrow to thank him for giving you the opportunity to be blessed with the gift of Islam.

    Salam Alkioum,
Well to be honest I couldn't give one exact reason why I started to learn about Islam. I have always practiced my own catholic religion but I never believed that Jesus(Issa) was God. So once I started to read, first about hindi, then about jewish then about Islam. I became interested in Islam and started to learn the facts about it and saw the beauty in it. Inshallah It is the right way,
    Allah bless you all.

    Selamu alejkum

Bimilah -In the name of God.

May the peace of God (Allah) be upon all of you my dear brothers and sisters.

I thank God that he has guided you(blueeyes0softheart) in the right path.

I know it is hard with your family and friends at first, and we all have undergone such difficulties when we embraced Islam.

I can see that you live in Toronto, so try to find some books of Sunni muslim scolar that lives there. His name is Bilal Philips. He is a Jamaican and as far as I remeber he was a Christian before he embraced Islam. I have read some of his books and they are very good. I would recommend you to read his book of Tawhid as you are new to Islam.

Later on you can also look for other books from Leading Scholars like Sheik Uthejmin, Sheik Albani, Sheik Feuzani etc, but for now look for some books of Bilal Philips.

Please if you need any further help try to contact it will be a pleasure to help.
May Allah help you in this beautiful and true religion of ours!

i just wanted to say that blueyes, i have found it to be this way too....learning somewhat on your own. Its okay though, it does not stop me...only makes me gives me to drive to read all i can and i have listened to some audio tapes from shaikh philips and i have been reading books like "Towards Understanding Islam" and i have been going to the mosque and speaking to the other women there. It all has been so helpful. But whatever you do, dont let anything discourage you from learning or going to the mosque. I was a little discouraged at first about the mosque, b/c i didnt know anyone and didnt know who to talk to...but as time has passed and i have made the first step to go and talk to the women there, they are so willing to just have to make the first step and ask....thats all! I kinda felt like i was in jr high again...back to school...around new people and had that butterfly feeling in my stomach...but then i thought to myself...i am here to learn so "a closed mouth does not get fed" so i had to speak will do fine i am sure. If ever you need a on any of us sure we all are never too busy as a shoulder to lean on....okay? tikkay. take care...huda hafiz, henna

    Salam, Thank you Lisa.
I have researched Islam from online sources such as Islamway, I have an english version of the Quran and illustrated books about the truth of Islam and the miracles of Islam. Just recently I have found a program that teaches to pray. It is very helpful with learning to pray. Thank you for offering your help. I hope we can chat soon. Much of what I have learned I have learned myself, I don't want to be Muslim for the wrong reasons. Not to get married, not to be different from anyone else, but simply because I want to find Allah, and know that I am on the right path to doing his will. Inshallah. Islam will be the answer to this.
    Allah bless you.

Sister, please be aware that nothing makes God more pleased than when one of his servants turns towards him. You are special. You have had your heart opened to the glory of Allah. Have faith that he will not abandon you.

I have been a Muslim for 5 years and it has been a hard road to travel. Thank Allah that my family have been supportive. I have to tell you that although it has been hard to turn my life away from haram (forbidden) practices it has been more than worthwhile. My heart feels at peace, there is purpose in my life, I have faith that our Master is guiding us and that if we believe in him and try to do His bidding all our struggles will be rewarded. So although you may find it hard at first, please know you have been blessed even more so than a born Muslim as Allah will wipe out all of your bad deeds and keep all your good deeds when you become/became(?) a Muslim.

On a practical point I would start with your local Mosque, call them on the phone ask to speak to the Imaan. Most Mosque have sisters groups and it is the duty of every Muslim to help converts as much as they can. If the Mosque does not have a sisters group I would personally try another as it is generally the more forward thinking Mosques that have these groups. Also I would advice you to attend a Sunni Mosque as the vast majority of Muslims are Sunni.

Good luck with your studies and In'Sha Allah (God willing) we will meet in Heaven.

    Salaam Alaykum

Congrats To you on becoming a beleiver, you are right, that it will be heartbreaking to your parents, and most of your family and relatives, but think of all the things you do in life just because you think they are right, and how you back them. So choose the right path and have confidence in your deen and in Allah (swt) as he is always there for us. Im sure once you have fully accpeted Islam, you will not ever another doubt in your heart or Mind.
